Workshop - Program Management New and Good Practices

Program management has evolved during the last 25 years from the management of a group of projects into a means of delivering strategic initiatives and value. Recently, concepts such as Value Delivery, Tailoring, Disciplined Agile ®  (DA™) and Value Stream have enriched program management. In this workshop, I will aim to explain how to consistently realize measurable benefits for stakeholders using a range of tools and techniques.

The workshop will first look at current program management good practices and examine how new concepts will add to the capability of program management to deliver sustainable value in more and more complex environments. It will take learners through the program management life cycle step by step and give them the opportunity to test them on a real-life case study.

In particular, we will see how to create a consistent Benefits Breakdown Structure to link project deliverables to strategic objectives and value; we will examine the concept of value and how to create a Value Index that will enable to prioritize business initiatives and measure value on an ongoing basis; we will also examine the concept of the Value Stream and how it will help you deliver value sooner.

This workshop is for relatively experienced project or program managers who want to better understand what a program is and how it can help them, and their organization deliver value.

After this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what a program is and how it can help deliver organizational value
  • Become familiar with proven methods to define and measure value consistently
  • Enhance your ability to deliver benefits incrementally in alignment with strategy
  • Increase your capability to explain the differences between programs and projects
  • Grasp how to integrate the concept of program and agile management in practice
