Workshop - Illuminating the Impact of Culture and Language on Project Teams To Enable You To Build Trust and Reach Your Goals

Could you unknowingly be sabotaging your projects and results by overlooking trust as the foundation of effective project completion? Trust is based on shared understanding that most often comes from shared culture. Culture shapes the values, beliefs, and attitudes that result in our expectations of and approach to how work should be done. Culture may be country and language, but also include region, gender, age, and conversational style. Goals: Understand how the Complexity of Cultural Layering unexpectedly impacts the way people talk, listen, make assumptions, create expectations, and are provoked. Be aware of your own “layering”. Appreciate how people from different cultures may approach work very differently. Learn how to apply this insight to increase your skills to not only analyze and overcome your own work challenges, but also to build stronger relationships, be more effective, and reduce stress.This one day workshop will increase your awareness, skills, tools, and strategy for effectiveness with crosscultural teams and stakeholders.

About the Presenter

Shelly Ridder: Trainer and Coach After living and working for 14 years in Germany, Japan, Turkey, Mexico, and India, as well as in all four corners of the United States, Shelly Ridder has a rare ability to see culture from both the outside in and the inside out. She has learned that effective teams are self-aware and appreciate diverse styles, even when they speak the same language. Shelly has an MA in Applied Linguistics (Sociolinguistics) is experienced in teaching culture, language, and project management. She can get by in a few languages. With 30 years of creating training and cross-cultural programs, she helps individuals and teams reach new insights and appreciation of their own and their teammates’ unique viewpoints and gifts.
